Family of Simon KADIS and Ziona GORDON

Ziona was a remarkable woman. She had a stroke when she was a

teenager that left her paralyzed on one side of her body. The

remarkable part is few people ever knew of her affliction. She was

independent and refused to be treated any way except as normal. When

Jonathan was born, Ziona insisted she could take care of the infant.

Ziona reached over and put her arm on the table, "chocked" Jonathan

against the arm and with her good arm changed his diaper. She walked

by swinging a stiff leg with her hips and she held her lifeless arm

with her other arm. Most people didnʼt notice!

One of the few exceptions was when she received her masters degree at

Case; the Dean brought her diploma to her seat rather than make her

walk the steps. Besides raising a family, she was a clinical

counselor. When she needed to jumpstart someone who was in a

self-pity rut, she would ask if he wanted a beverage. Then she would

get up from her desk and drag her way to the coffee pot.
