Mr. Wear not only had many championships in court tennis and racquets,

but had been chairman of the Davis Cup Committee, captain of the Davis

Cup team and vice president of the United States Lawn Tennis

Association. He was co-donor, with his friend, Dwight F. Davis, of

the Davis Cup, emblematic of the world championship in tennis.

At Yale University, he was chosen to the All-American baseball team.
