Levin Yuri changed his name to Leopold Rosenzweig to escape army
service. His mother sold her diamond belt to get money for Leopold's
escape. He left Poland for Sweden. He met his wife Bertha in the
Baltic. Bertha and her mother, Amelia, had taken a boat there to go
shopping. Amelia met Leopold and introduced him to her daughter.
Leopold and Bertha had several children in Sweden. He went to New
York (probably 1868) and sent for his family who had gone to Hull,
England. They probably arrived in New York on 4 July 1869.
