Richard E. Marks retired from the Ford Motor Company, Purchasing
Department in 1984 after 38 years of service with the company. After
retirement he worked 12 years representing Lorro Inc. of Detroit. His
earliest work was a reporter with the Toledo News-Bee, a
Scripps-Howard Newspaper. During World War II, as a fighter pilot in
the U.S. Army Air Force, he served in North Africa, Scicily, Italy and
China. Called back to active duty in the Korean War, he served as a
fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force and was held by the Communists in
N. Korea for 2 years as a prisoner of war.
He was a 1947 graduate of the University of Michigan and a member of
the Veteran of Foreign Wars. He had been a Ham Radio Operator for
many years and held the station call sign W8UTB. He was an active
member of the Stu Rockefeller Radio Club.
