In 1910 he was a salesman of suits and cloaks. By 1920 he was retired and living at 164 Melbourne Ave. with his wife, Berneice, and their daughter, Anna. They owned the house fully with no mortgage. At some point, Abe ran a saloon in Detroit on Hastings Street. He went into real estate with Sol and developed Ascher Beach in Port Clinton, Ohio. He also was in politics and helped elect Governor Grosbeck. Grosbeck in turn gave Abe a job as oil inspector, and Abe got a state car to use.

Harry Ascher remembered visiting Abe and Berneice in "the house on Montcalm," so maybe Abe continued to live there for a while after his parents passed away or moved out.
