Myron Joseph "Bud" Urdang, the third-generation owner and operator of
A. Shaw Co., died May 10 at age 88. After retiring from the scrap
metal business in 1983, Mr. Urdang became a registered investment
adviser and worked until 2010. He was a member of The Temple-Tifereth Israel and a past member of Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple.
A graduate of Shaker Heights High School, Mr. Urdang was assigned to
the weather service by the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He studied meteorology at Haverford College and went on to Harvard
School of Engineering. After graduating from the Wharton School of
the University of Pennsylvania, Mr. Urdang joined the family business
and opened a second office in Pittsburgh. During the Korean War, he
worked in Washington, D.C., for the office of price stabilization.
