Note on Husband: Jacob SHOOK

Notes of Carrie L. Lartigue:

In the early 1800's, Jacob, John and Peter (3 brothers) owned 1000

acres of land at Shook's pond in Dutchess Cto., NY. There was a

blacksmith, tannery, and distillery under one management, also a

store. Whiskey and cider were sold in the store which was run by

Jacob. George had the tannery and Peter was a farmer. Jacob later

acquired a sloop, which carried on trade between the town of Hudson

and New York City. In 1821 he was Supervisor of the newly formed town

of Milan. Jacob and part of his children moved to Michigan about

1840, settling at Harrison Twp., now Mt. Clemens.
